Ole!

It's Cinco de Mayo and who doesn't need a reason to go out and celebrate?! However, fiestas on 5/5 are full of food and drinks that are grande on the calorie count.

Comidas (food):opt for
  • black beans instead of refried
  • whole-wheat or corn tortillas (soft shell) instead of plain white or hard shell tortillas
  • salsa - it's jam packed with antioxidants!
  • blend sour cream w/non-fat yogurt
  • instead of loading up on shredded cheese, sprinkle it on
  • marinated veggies and/or grilled chicken or fish instead of red meat
  • avoid the taco salad - the shell alone is worth nearly a day's calorie count
Bevidas (drinks):
  • Cinco de Mayo is not complete without Margaritas. However, each one can contain between 250-500 calories...definitely, not a reason to fiesta. However, Hungry Girl's recipe for making Magical Low-Cal Margaritas makes you say Ole! with less than half the calories.
  • And, if you're a beer drinker, you can save 43 calories by opting for a Corona Light instead of the Corona Extra.
Eat, drink, be merry and get some physical activity by shaking your booty and doing a round of the Macarena just to celebrate!
